Sutter Health banks on mobile app
The second largest healthcare system in Northern California has tapped the iTriage mobile app in a move to keep local patients supplied with data about doctors and nearby hospitals. Sutter Health, which spans 24 hospitals and a network of 4,700 physicians, hopes its patients will turn to the free download to view information such as a doctor's board certification or practice specialty, hours and office addresses, languages spoken, medical training and degrees, affiliations and referral networks, whether he or she accepts new patients, and what health plans are accepted. VoIP viable for hospitals

That's a good point-- go with an internet based phone system and a lot of the control is out of your hands. Take it a step further with a hosted VoIP phone system or a hosted PBX, and that's even less control you have. Businesses can risk it, hospitals not so much.

Wow! Great post John. As someone from Generation Y, I definitely appreciate the mobile features of my RememberItNow! PHR. It makes it so easy to look up my medical history when I have to fill out paperwork or have a doctor's appointment. In fact, I'm so used to looking up information on my phone all the time it almost seems unnatural to not have my PHR on my phone. Hospitals focus on asset tracking

This article gives you a great idea of how creative hospitals are using technology not only to care for people but also using technology to control costs, protect investments and reduce their expenses. About 7 yrs ago my daughter who was a nurses assitant spent her day looking for an ICU bed in the hosptial she worked at. No she didn't find but she still got paid her $11.50 an hour. Techology would have helped find that bed and yes nurses and their assistants need to know how to work with the technology to make their lifes easier.
